I’m Avenged…Barely.

This is a quick hit and run post, but I had to share this struggle of a morning. The workout was the Avenger…40 second intervals with alternating strength and cardio. We like to call it “super hero training”!

Usually, I love this workout; it’s fun and challenging. Today, it was challenging and miserable and I barely made it through. It was frustrating and I was so angry about it. What the hell? How can I be struggling this much when I’m working so hard, especially coming off a rest day? Even the stations that I typically hit like a rock star posed a serious challenge.

But I gave what I had and then, afterward, I came across this message:

So, in the spirit of my new outlook to focus on the positive, here are some good things I am taking away from my workout struggle this morning:

  • I dragged my sorry ass out of bed at 4:42am and actually WENT to this workout
  • I did both 40 second rounds of power jacks without stopping
  • I hefted two 35# dumbbells during split jerk intervals (not gonna lie…those bitches were HEAVY!!!)
  • I (mostly) kept up with my very fast and agile partner during the ladder runs

These are all things I couldn’t do a month or so ago (well, except for the first one). And I did them today.

I wonder what I’ll be able to do by next month?

  1. I have never gotten to a point where I’ve seen black spots. I really needed you and I thank you for the extra push. I have no clue what was wrong with me today. Normally I BEAST through this workout and today was such a challenge. I didn’t eat any differently than I normally do but I did take some medicine last night. Maybe that was it. Kind of feel defeated though, not gonna lie. Maybe Friday will be better.

    • Stay positive, my friend! That’s our goal. 🙂 It was a rough morning for many of us, but you soldiered on and finished the workout today. Maybe it wasn’t your best performance (it certainly wasn’t mine!), but you came and you gave what you had. THAT is something to feel proud of, and not defeated by. And don’t forget, you showed up at 5:30am and worked, which is a helluva lot more than people who were still asleep at that time can say.

  2. You know you get props from me for getting up at this god awful time in the morning. We all have days like that. Great job on seeing the positives for today! Keep doing it & it will become a habit.

      • Do I have to workout? You might get me there at 7 on a Saturday morning. BTW- I powered through the power jacks without stopping too. I figured if you could do it, so could I. I did not, however, do 35 pound wts for split jerks. You rock that!

      • All right, I’ll aim to see you some Saturday at 7am. Way to rock the power jacks! And you are a badass; I’ve heard how much you lift from Drew…you can get to 35# soon. 🙂

  3. Thanks for sharing this- it’s nice to know others feel the same sometimes. I had this same experience with the new workout yesterday. It started with me not being able to get out of my own way and ended with me smashing my finger under a 35 lb. weight. I came home feeling like shit and wanting to eat a cake. But I didn’t and I didn’t let it ruin my day. That’s progress!

    • Ouch! I hope your finger is okay! And definitely glad to hear you didn’t eat the cake, because that would have just made you feel worse. Way to move on from a bad morning!
